Router Setup
How to Set Up Your Full Fibre (FTTP) Router
With full fibre, your router connects to the new socket an engineer fitted on your wall rather than an old phone socket. We supply one of two routers, and this video shows you the cable and port colours for each so you plug it in correctly first time.
Step by step
- 1Connect the power cable to the mains, then plug the other end into your router.
- 2Find the new full fibre socket on your wall. It has a yellow slot on the bottom.
- 3Take the connecting cable supplied with your kit.
- 4On the first router, plug the cable into the red port. On the other router, plug it into the slot with the blue 'W' sticker.
- 5Plug the other end of that cable into the yellow slot on your wall socket, and your full fibre router is set up.
Common questions
Which port does the cable go into on the router?
It depends which of the two routers you received. On one, it's the red port. On the other, it's the slot marked with a blue 'W' sticker. The other end always goes into the yellow slot on your wall socket.
Where is my full fibre socket?
It's the new socket the Openreach engineer fitted to your wall during installation, separate from your old phone socket. Look for the yellow slot on the bottom of it.
Do I still need my old phone socket?
Not for your full fibre broadband. Full fibre runs through the new wall socket. If you have a digital phone, it plugs into the router rather than the old socket.
