How to Set Up Your Digital Phone (VoIP Adapter)

With digital phone, your landline plugs into your router through a small adapter rather than into the wall. This video shows you where the adapter goes on each of the two routers we supply, and how to move your phone across.

Step by step

  1. 1Take the small telephone adapter supplied with your kit.
  2. 2Plug the adapter into a green slot on your router. If your router has two green slots, either one works, and you can leave the second empty.
  3. 3Unplug your phone cable from the old telephone wall socket.
  4. 4Plug that phone cable into the adapter instead.
  5. 5Your digital phone is now set up and ready to use.

Common questions

Which slot does the adapter go into?

A green slot on your router. One of our routers has two green slots (either one is fine, leave the other empty) and the other has a single green slot.

Do I leave my phone plugged into the wall as well?

No. Move the phone cable out of the old wall socket and into the adapter. With digital phone, the call travels over your broadband through the router, not through the old wall socket.

Will I still have a dial tone?

Yes. Once the phone is connected to the adapter and the router is online, you'll have a dial tone and can make and receive calls as normal.
