Find out how your home broadband measures up.
Your provider is switching off the landline. You don't have to lose your home phone.
Some providers have decided not to offer a digital home phone, so customers are being moved to broadband only or pushed elsewhere. Inspire gives you a modern home phone over your broadband, with real UK support, and we'll check your existing number can move with you.
UK support that typically answers in 60 seconds. Lines open Mon to Fri 9 to 5, Sat 9 to 2.
What's actually happening to your landline
If you've had a letter or a notice saying your home phone is changing, here's the plain version of what it means.
Some providers won't offer a digital home phone
As the old phone network is retired, every home phone moves to working over broadband. Not every provider is offering that. Some have chosen to drop the home phone entirely and move affected customers to a broadband-only package.
The old phone network closes on 31st January 2027
The UK's traditional copper phone network (the PSTN) is being switched off, with the national close date set for 31st January 2027. Older landline packages that rely on it will stop working, so a move is coming whether you plan for it or not.
You get to choose where you go
If your provider is pushing you to a sister brand or to broadband only, that's not your only option. You're free to move to a provider that still gives you a proper home phone, and switching is simpler than it used to be.
Why people move their home phone to Inspire
We're the UK's #1 Internet Provider on Trustpilot, rated excellent by 600+ customers. Here's what that looks like in practice.
A real home phone, over your broadband
Plug your handset into the router and use it the way you always have. It rings, it dials, it works. We'll check whether your existing number can move across with you before you commit.
UK support that picks up
When you call us, a person in the UK answers, typically within 60 seconds. No menus that loop, no being passed around. Support is open Monday to Friday 9 to 5 and Saturday 9 to 2.
Broadband and phone together
Move your broadband at the same time and you have one provider, one bill, and one number to call if anything needs sorting. We handle the connection so you're not chasing two companies.
No mid-contract price hikes
Your price is the price you agreed. We don't build inflation-linked rises into the contract, so the figure you sign up to is the figure you keep paying.
Weighing up where to go
When a provider drops the home phone, you usually have three choices. Here's how they compare.
| Your options | Keep a home phone | Move at one call | Real UK support | No mid-contract price hikes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Move to Inspire | ||||
| Accept broadband only | Varies | Varies | ||
| Go where your provider points you | Varies | Varies |
"Varies" means it depends on the specific provider and tariff you move to. Always check support hours and contract terms before you sign up.
Switching is simpler than it used to be
New industry rules mean you contact one provider, the one you're moving to, and they handle the rest. No need to ring your old provider to cancel.
